UMAMIcatessen Opens In Downtown Los Angeles

Hey guys,
It’s Whitney’s sister Paige. Whit asked me to do a guest blog about this delicious new restaurant called UMAMIcatessen that just opened near the Whitney Eve office downtown. We’ve been waiting for it to open so Whit was not happy that it did while she is off galavanting in the UK. What makes this restaurant so unique is that it’s three already successful restaurants combined into one — Pigg, UMAMI and The Cure. For those of you unfamiliar with those spots, all you need to know is that when they join forces, it’s a meat lover’s dream come true. Vegetarians beware, this menu is not for you. A number of the drinks are even meat-based! That being said, the drink menu was ginormous!! I kept it simple this time around though, that’s an adventure for another time… Anyway, for my meal I ordered the corned beef sandwich and I’m not exaggerating when I say it was the most delicious corned beef I have ever eaten — so thick and tender! My dad and my brother both got burgers and they said they were incredible, especially with the yummy homemade ketchup the restaurant serves.

Lastly, if you’re not too full at the end of the meal, they have a donut menu and all donuts are fried to order! I unfortunately could not consume another thing so I had to pass on the donuts, but I definitely will be going back. If any of you are LA-based or visiting the area, I highly recommend you try this spot!

Weekly Guest Blog: Halloween Tips

Happy almost Halloween! If this holiday tends to throw you a curveball when it comes to nutrition, we’re here to help. Personally, we want to get MORE candy for fewer calories — that way we can enjoy it longer. We try to stick with a 200 calorie portion so we don’t totally send ourselves into a sugar coma or overdo our calories for the day. We also try to plan a Halloween-inspired dinner party to shift some of the focus off of the candy and onto good food and fun with friends. But back to candy… here are our favorite candy choices and a few sweets that we prefer to skip. And if you want to see what we eat on Halloween this year, check out our Twitter, @CJNutrition . (more…)
