Andrea’s Guest Blog: An Evening of
Fashion at the CFDA’s

Hi my dears,
You all of course know my best friend Andrea . Well she was nice enough to write up an incredible recap of Monday night’s CFDA Awards offering a fun and detailed look into the event — she’s definitely one of the most talented writers I know so I have no doubt that you all will really enjoy reading this. Take it away, Ang!

An Evening of Fashion at the CFDA’s

As Sunday evening came to an end, I thought there was no possible way that the week could get any better. Whit and I had spent the weekend in the Hamptons with friends and Sunday had been spent at a Polo match on Governor’s Island with an insanely fun group of people. But then, we got some news: Whitney would be attending Monday night’s Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards and I was going with her! We were so excited we could hardly contain ourselves–we felt like kids in a candy shop. The CFDA’s are like the Oscar’s of fashion and we were going to attend!

Monday was a whirlwind day. We hit the ground running at the crack of dawn (ok, it was really 10am): Whitney had her fitting at Pamela Rolland’s gorgeous showroom (she settled on a sparkly-white one-shoulder gown), and then we ran around the corner to Whit’s showroom so I could get decked out in Whitney Eve. She styled me in a fitted black blazer and insanely wide-legged salmon-colored pants. The afternoon was spent getting pampered, from mani-pedi’s to hair and make-up…everything we needed to feel red-carpet ready!

As we rode up to Lincoln Center we could feel the energy–cars, fans, and paparazzi swarmed the street. The scene upon arrival was madness: Jason Wu and Zac Posen stood in line in front of us, Marc Jacobs was on our left, and Lisa Mayock of Vena Cava stood behind us. Needless to say, we were surrounded by fashion royalty. After the red carpet, we mingled at the cocktail reception. At one point, the room started buzzing and we realized that could only mean one thing: Lady Gaga had arrived. She made her entrance at the very end of the cocktail hour and was the last to strut her stuff down the carpet (let’s be serious, who wants to follow Gaga? No one!). As we took our seats in Alice Tulley Hall, the lights dimmed and the show began. Anderson Cooper, the MC of the evening, took the stage and told tales (and showed pics!) of his early days as a child model. The show, which was stunningly produced, seemed to go off without a hitch. We heard speeches from amazing designers: Diane Von Furstenberg, Alexander Wang, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough (the boys behind Proenza Schouler), and Phoebe Philo of Celine, to name a few. After all the awards were given out, we were treated to a mini Marc Jacobs runway show as models took the stage to show off the designer’s most fabulous looks.

All in all, the evening was a truly unforgettable experience. It was such a privilege to be able to attend and to represent my favorite designer–Whitney Eve, of course! There must have been 27 different times throughout the day on Monday that Whit and I were giddy with excitement, reminding each other how lucky we are to be able to attend such special events. No doubt the memories we have from the CFDA’s will last us a lifetime.
