WEEK 2
Beauty tips from nutritionists
Hi there! Last Tuesday we told you a bit about who we are (in case you missed it we’re nutritionist duo Willow and Stephanie of C&J Nutrition) and promised we’d be back with more Tuesdays filled with quick, practical, nutritious, and tasty tips for looking and feeling your best. And, in honor of Fashion Week (we heart Whitney Eve!) we thought we’d bring you guys the Dos and Don’ts of eating for healthy skin and hair, because, nothing complements your fave clothes like a glowing complexion and healthy, shiny locks!
DO eat orange foods: Oranges contain vitamin C, a necessary nutrient for your body to make collagen, the component in your skin that gives it elasticity and firmness, and keeps the fibers that create each hair together. Plus, beta carotene, found in carrots, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, mango, and other orange fruits and veggies is needed for cells to grow – and since our hair cells are constantly in a state of growth, it’s a VIP. And guys – we’re talking NATURALLY orange foods – sorry, Cheetos don’t count!
DON’T skip iron-packed protein: We naturally shed hair each month, but not eating enough protein can slow the rate that the hairs grow back – causing hair to thin. Iron is a super VIP for helping your red blood cells carry oxygen and nutrients to hair follicles and skin cells. Get iron-packed protein by eating an assortment of beans, tofu, edamame, lean beef, chicken, black-eyed peas, lentils, and eggs.
DO stay hydrated: Without enough water, your body doesn’t work efficiently to deliver nutrients to every inch or maintain proper cell growth (which includes hair follicles.) The best test to know if you’re hydrated is to check the color of your urine (We know it sounds a little weird — but it’s the best way to know if you’re hydrated or not since everyone needs a different amount.) – if it’s clear to pale yellow (like lemonade) you’re well hydrated; if it’s dark yellow to brownish (like apple juice) you need to drink more! If plain water seems too boring or doesn’t taste good, try adding lemon and cucumber, or a splash of juice to sparkling water!
DON’T crash diet: Missing out on important nutrients because you’re eating too little, constantly fad dieting, and not making healthy, varied, and balanced food choices can cause your hair to become brittle and dry and your skin dull.
DO try garbanzo beans: Garbanzo beans contain zinc — if you don’t get enough zinc, it can slow the rate at which hair grows and lead to hair loss and can also cause red, flaky skin. These delicious beans also contain vitamin B-6 and folate, which are like a nutritional Fed-Ex — they help your body make the cells that deliver all the nutrition from your healthy diet directly to each hair and hair follicle!

Heyy Whitney!
Thanks for this :) My skin is awful! Plus I’m anaemic, so my skin isn’t great either! But I’m going to try out some of these tips to see if they help – Hopefully they do!
Thanks again xD
