Hey everyone, I am working on decorating my apartment!!! As some of you
may have seen on The City my couch is very bright and not super
comfortable... Does anyone have any good ideas of where I can get a really comfy
couch in NYC???
I always love to switch things up in my apartment and would really appreciate recommendations of where to shop. Below are some pics of my new striped rug as well as the rest of my apartment...I am looking for a comfortable new couch and table that will match well. Also, any other interior design tips for me?

Hey I like the couch, great color. Maybe you can find one in a Raymour&Flannigan,Ashley Furniture, or maybe a macy's home store.
Hey Whitney.. I think your decorating is very honest and you! Stay true to that instinct! Now help me with my problem at my website.
Hey Whitney, I think the color scheme is really great, so don't change the color of the couch too much. It really seems to work in this room! Yeah so I think just find a better couch in the same color.
Omg!!
I really love the mirror !!!
It brings so much more space in thee apartment..
The parket has a great collar that turns out good with all the rest.
Well overall, i like it so much more that the black and white this is much warmer.

What? You don't want your couch well if you're getting rid of it and have no one to give it to I'll be happy to take it off your hands...let me know.
Love the color and it is very much your style!!! I think it's perfect!!!
Whitney - You should look into Russell & Mackenna - www.russellmackenna.com - we sell hip coastal cottage furniture with a bit of a whimsical touch. It's a great way to incorporate the beach into your chic city style. If you have questions please contact me - we'd LOVE to add a few of our pieces to your apartment in NY!
Hey Whitney. I love the colour scheme. I would maybe add some glossy white? I'm a big fan of white space, and maybe also add a little bit of "french luxe" accents mixed with the modern and floral. Maybe pull an accent colour like hot pink or bright orange? The rug is beautiful, and the colours with the floors are nice. I really love the colours Tory Burch is using right now too.
Hi Whitney!
First of all, your apartment already looks fabulous, but my absolute favorite spot in the city for amazing finds is ABC home & carpet. I can spend hours just drooling over everything, you may have already been, but it's such a killer spot! Check it out!

Hi Whitney...try WEST ELM...they have reaaaalllly comfy stuff and not that expensive!!! let me know how it goes!!!
two designers i think you'd really dig include sarah richardson and samantha pynn. both canadian, but they're from toronto so they get the east coast big city style, and both of the girls get glam. and judging from that beautiful mirrored buffet, i think it would be up your alley.
i think a little more pop might be nice in your primarily grey living room. this could be achieved through high impact/contrast fabrics like damask, which would also go with the glam feel. as easy as multi-tonal collection of pillows on your couch.
looks good though.
I think your apartment would look GREAT with White Erktrop couches from Ikea - particularly, I think the sectional would look GREAT: http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/S29839461
And because its Ikea, its not too expensive - leaving you a lot of leftover money to get other more expensive things for the apartment like art or an amazing oak coffee table or something.
I do think its good you redo it - its "younger" and now you are SOPHISICATED!
I would definitely check out Anthropologie or Urban outfitters! They have great unique pieces that I think would work well in your apartment!
I love the shabby chic french style with strong floral fabrics and white painted distressed furniture, small delicate show pieces like pretty flower pots and huge mirrors with dramatic frames. Go to www.bellemaison.co.uk for some ideas

OK, what I think you should do is move the couch to the wall where the dress/bar piece is so you can take advantage of the view, the put the other piece in front of the window that would be next to the couch on same side, use the rug as inspiration and get some pillows that match it a little more to make it coordinate. Then if you can, paint the walls something other than blue, like an oatmeal color or sand (to me, it looks too blue so it's almost a little somber and you're so bubbly. Or get some white curtains, instead of the blue to make the room lighter. Ok, that's my suggestion... sorry if it was too much.
Hey Whitney!
You're apartment is gorgeous as it is! But I would just say, go lighter! U'll be amazed by the amount of light that cream, sheeny wallpaper will bring to ur main living room! I would team it up with maybe a purple feature wall and gold accessories, but that's just me! :) Hope thats a help!! I cant help you on anything else, because I'm in the U.K unfortunately!!
Steph xoxox
i love the couch!! maybe you will put it on the street and i can come pick it up haahahahah
but i would say abc carpet and home or maybe even west elm.
I love your wall colors.. What colors and brand of paint did you use? You're help will be truly appreciated!!
Thanks,
cat
Hey Whitney,
The windows are great for winter, but NOT spring and summer, go for like light gossamer white curtains, pull them back on the sides with some colorful ribbon, keep it light an airy, it will feel cooler than the thick dark panels. But toss those in your storage closet for next year. remember their color/bring one when you get your new couch, im a boston baby so no dice in helping there. ha. I love your apartment though. amaze! do you have good patio furniture going on?
I HOPE! xo
meg
Try BoConcept. I just got my couch from there - it's great, you pick the style the fabric, everything. It's customized but not too pricey - of course, to new york standards.
good luck
Walls and rug are nice and bright. Drapes bring a neutral balance. Your sofa should be a darker color (like a dark chocolate brown) this will help the colors brighten the room and stand out better. I think you need a couple more home and friends photos to bring a little more warmth to the place.
It's cute.
Check out CB2, Brocade Home, Design Within Reach - all in SoHo.
I think your apartment looks really good the way it is! :)
hey whit!
I' pretty sure you're couch is green/blue? Yes? And the curtains too.. I think brown and teal-ish greens look fab together, my room is brown and teal! but not digusting teal of course! So I'd go for a dark c.hocolate brown, dramatic BUT also very casual.
And if you're wanting something brighter, I'd go with more violets and purples. That would be super cute!
YOU CAN CHECK MITCHELL GOLD AND BOB WILLIAMS HAS GREAT STUFF, I ALSO HAVE A GREAT DECORTOR THAT WILL DO YOUR APT FOR FREE. HES DONE ALOT OF UPPER EAST SIDE APT'S AS WELL AS A COUPLE OF CELEBS
west elm (chelsea), abc carpet(broadway/19), room & board in (soho) and DWR (soho). mix classic mid century modern style with a little eclectic pieces - like anthropologie. Living Etc. is a great magazine for inspiration.
My brother lives in NYC and got his couch at West Elm...good luck!
Nice as is, but remove the Octagon thing on the wall and some of those pillows on couch :)
i like steph's comments! room & board, dwr, and living etc. magazine! if you want something more modern or luxurious then try b&b italia and ligne roset.
Hi Whitney-
Check out russellmackenna.com - colorful coastal cottage furniture. Has a Hamptons-chic vibe - maybe remind you of home in CA...We deliver to NYC, Hamptons, etc. often. Tweet me @freshfurniture if you need more info. Good Luck! :)
Here in the UK laura Ashley is very popular they have really pretty things that are new age and modern like the english flower theme. That way you can get something no one else has.
I love the rug, but the room seems a little bit down I think you should add more color.
You should get an aquarium. Good deal.
Housing Works Thrift Stores in Chelsea. Amazing furniture finds, and you can get clothes too!
not feelin the cutains
i love urban outfitter's furniture!
Hi! I think you should try with colors and textures on the walls first, that will help with the decoration 'cause you can reuse the things that you already have.
Hi Whitney-
I find that cream and burgundy can take you from Spring through Fall.
I am also in need of a comfy couch. If you need help shoping send me a message on twitter or via email.
I am also in NYC.
For fabrics you could try downtown manhattan at Zarins Fabrics- the place is amazing and you will get exactly what you want for drapes and other items.

Hey Whitney my roommate and i just go these suede couches that are really deep, like if you sit back your feet dont touch the ground. we dont live in NYC but they are so so so comfy i want to sleep on the everyday.:) but i am sure you can find some anywhere. seriously so comfy and way cute. you can get them in any color.
-Whitney
Maurice Villency on 57th and 3rd has gorgeous stuff and they're going out of business so there are big sales. Roche Bobois in the 30s has gorgeous stuff. ABC Carpet on 19th is like sensory overload - everything is so awesome. My friends have furniture from Pottery Barn that is so comfy and very cute.
Defintely ABC carpet and home. Great stuff there! Just make sure to measure your front door to make sure that it will fit. Our apartments in NYC are so tiny so what looks small in the store will look big in the apartment! Good luck and have fun decorating :)
You might need some accent color like, your light blue wall color goes with pink and light green. stuff like that.. Sea shells.. Flowers... White curtains..
Hello Whitney. I just read the post on your site about redecorating your apartment with emphasis on replacing your bright and uncomfortable sofa. I think a great place to get a sofa from that'll match your style as well as provide you and your company with comfort would be one from West Elm. They make great contemporary pieces that can fit into almost everyone's decor. I used to work for Restoration Hardware, and although they have great pieces I don't believe they have much that would work for you. They make one sofa called Maxwell that is comfortable and versatile with style. It has straight lines, doesn't sit too low, and can be upholstered in many fabrics. One downside is it may be a piece made in China (like majority of their sofas now). Not worth paying $3,000+ for anything made in China. You quality for that kind of money. So I hope this was a little helpful. Happy Shopping! :)
Where did you get all the things that you have in your apartment?! If you don't want that couch, i would GLADLY take it!
Thanks,
Fan in MI
jonathan adler makes great couches that go wit ur look, butterfeild or blakley..they usually have a warehouse sale end of may-u shud check it out

I love it as it is, but you could make the tv wall a feature wall by putting up some textured or pattern wallpaper, i have it in my lounge, gives the room more of a focal point! x You've got great taste anyway whitney, sure you'll make it look fab.
IKEA always has good ideas! Check out their catalogue or online if you don't get it there?? not that it matters but it's affordable too!
i think small cute shaped mirrors add dimension. also perhaps tiny black shelves on the wall where you could set some candles on.!
your colour scheme is good, i have turquoise and black which allows a variety. if you need help you know who to ask! lol
goodluck! xx
whit - check out anthroplogie.com
Hi Whit,
Could you please tell us where you purchased your mirrored buffet/ tv cabinet. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. Its so different to anything I've seen.
Please let us know where it comes from.
Looking forward to the next season. So glad you were strong in the last episode. Hope everything works out for you.

IKEA always have good and affordable things! :)
Can I have your old furniture?
I love the apartment but I do understand the need for comfort! I would try to stay with the same color tone because it works! I love Pottery barn and they have tons of fabrics that they can do the couch in. I am sure they have a similar fabric in all there color schemes. Good luck! Happy shopping...

You're appartment is awesome. i'm coming from the netherlands so if my enlisch is not so well. just ignore it. But the color is awesome, but je get very quikly bored from colors. even when they are you're favorites. So if you get basic furniture, like black, grey ore white. It isn't a forture to re-do your appartement. Because then you can switch with decorating stuff. And i saw you're room in a aftershow off the hills season 1 and i know you love pink. So why dont you get a nice print for your walls. Its easy to re-do and take of and it gives your appartment a whole different look!
lotsoflove xoxo Merel
btw: i loooooooove the city, here in europe they aren't by the season finaly yet. but i watched it on the internet.
Just a few tips. Take your new rug and use it in an ajoining roon and then pick a wall you want to stand out and mirror the design on the carpet. Creating a stripped wall in your space and then having the same design on the carpet of an ajoining room can bring life and creativeness to such a small space. It also helps to bring the design throughout the aparment. Oh and talk about a conversation piece! Hope this helps :)
Okay- so I just moved to a bigger apartment so I have been shopping the city for new stuff. Definitely check out ABC Carpet and Home - www.abcarpet.com. They have a lot of great couches. I just bought a Mitchell Gold Bob Williams Couch there and it is so comfortable yet totally chic! Also, I would consider getting another rug to compliment the stripe rug. It is a bit small and looks out of place. ABC Carpet also has the most incredible rugs I have ever seen on the 6th floor. I almost bought this amazing hot pink dyed antique rug which they have in a million colors. I think I might have to go back for one.
Anyways.. Good luck!
Hey Whit!
I know you are just getting use to the city as well but Im actually going there on sat. for a day trip and there is soo much I want to see! Do you think I should take a bus tour or would I be able to walk everywhere just really fast lol
I really want to get the whole experiance and walk everywhere but I am afraid I will not get to see everything including the BIGG V. Secret in Manhatteeennn (:(: Super exited for that but I know there are a ton of VS there and I also don't want to waste time in the others when I could be in the biggest one of them all...
<><
hum sweetie, i don't know anywhere to buy some things for your house in NYC but i could give you some suggestion from FRANCE yay!!!!
I love decorate!!! I love decoration TV shows!!!! Here i swear by ikea and alinea!!! and decoration is so trendy do it yourself stores are great too as Leroy Merlin or Castorama in France. I've decorated all my apartment myself : painting, assembly of furniture... I love it!!!! It's so funny and you feel so proud when you finish :D
Good luck for your decoration
I'm sure you will do good choice. I have a suggestion : blue and chocolate !!! or any color with chocolate !!!!
xoxo from France

I love the apartment, but here`s what I would do.
You want as much light as you can get in, that will make it look bigger. So drop the curtains and get some window blinds:) I would also drop the carpet and get one that has only one color (the last one).
Floor lightning is also cool. The mirror is nice and I like that it`s on the floor, but I would get a brown frame around it. Good luck:
Whitney I love Jordans Furniture and they have very comfy furniture check out there website, I have a beutiful oversized white couch with a bunch of pillows for 11 years now and still to this day everyone who comes over and sits on it says this is the most comfortable couch ever, I love it, so check there website....can not wait for the new show, Whitney can you answer a question, I know alot of the girls on The Hills wear hair extensions, I am looking for clip in human hair, same color as Laurens, can you please recommend a place to me to buy them....
Kindly,
Janice
i love the rug.... i think your appt looks good
ABC Home and Carpet for couch or Takashimaya or that really cool home store around the corner from DVF meatpacking
also check out Julian Chichester or Donghia online - they have showrooms at NY Design Center- oooh and Bunny Williams just came out with these really cool mohair nailhead couches that are sOOOO comfy...her website or call her office upper east . holly hunt has modern and comfy stuff too.
btw-i think your apt looks great and have enjoyed seeing it on the city. i think it would be more cozy with some different lighting - having different sources of light in a room create outlets. i like to have 3 different sources of lighting in every room - usually a few lamps, maybe some cool overhead lighting, and then oversized portrait lights are cool in a brushed nickel finish. i think an oversized floor lamp and some fun pillows would be cool - also maybe a bigger rug. what is your overhead lighting for the dining area...can't tell?
I think you should have a darker couch, more lightening... like softer lamps and candels. I lover your colors in your livingroom and the couch even though you want a new one this is really nice.
Have a nice weekend!
I have to say I absolutely LOVE the couch! Love the whole atmosphere of it, soft and welcoming - very you!
Enjoy your weekend xxx

sorry can't spell, must have been the martinis last night, but I do love your apartment!
hi whitney!
i like the idea of adding more color to the apartment, good thinking! now about the mirror, i love where you put it, but i think you should frame it, just to give it more stability..
anxious to see you next season!!
kisses*
hi. i just redecorated my room. I think you should go with warmer tones like red and beige. a good color palette to use is red,gold/beige, white or black. another is blue, green, tan. if you are going more for modern i would go for hot pink,white,black....that's what i did. p.s. luv ur clothes!!!!!!!!!
heyy! jus poppin by ta sayy loveee looovee lovee tha area rug!! sorry i'n too tired ta give ne tipss tonite..can't think :S .. and I'm livin in London Ontario! LoL ..ohh but maybe try white sheer floor length curtains?

Wow you need an interior designer ASAP!
Hey,
So I guess you're asking for decorating tips but I love the comforter/duvet in your room and I would love to know who makes it!
Thanks
hey whitney,
i'm a big fan of your show - i'm from australia.
i was wondering if you could advise whether the city (the first season) is going to be released?
i love the look of your apartment and your couch i thought looked comfy...
i did some research and they have a place called surprise surprise. it sounds like it would be a good store.
hope to hear from you soon.
I wish I knew, but I have never been in new york, I hope very soon,
one thing I have to say, your apartment looks very cute really my style, I am always switch my room to!
good luck,
see you on twitter
Hey Whitney,
Ok...so I was looking at the pics you posted, and I like the idea of having the oversized mirror in the space. But, I think that if you put over sized mirrors on the entire surface of the wall it would make the space seem larger and bring in more light during the day. The colors on the wall are cute; light blue is nice for the room since blue is a calming color and you spend alot of your time in there. As far as the couch, I think a cool retro floral look would be kinda cool. The pattern with the area rug would go with it. You could even pair it up with some sort of leather or color suede ottoman for extra leg room, and storage. Hope this helps ya girl!
Hi Whitney,
I love what you have done with your apartment and the colour scheme as well. What I would give to live in a city like New York. A couple of years ago my parents bought a couple of couches ( two seater and three seater) from a place in dunedin, new zealand(where I live) which are a dark navy blue and they are really comfortable. Hope you find the couch you are after. :)
Oops I forgot to say in my last msg that the couches were from a place called Mackenzie and Willis.
all u gotta do is rotate the furniture, open the space up and everything will look brand new, and of course buy some new art work or pieces to compliment the room.the mirror does look nice too..
Hey Whitney,
girl you have perfect size apartment space for yourself......I love decorating and thats my specialty hehehe!!
well with the space i see you have on the photos
the smallest space is the most easiest and perfect space to decorate.
I can picture some draping at your window and just some nice fun colors in your space something bright and nice.It can be retro or floral them in your space it will look lovely.
i can assist you if you like i can prolly put out a sketching or something of how your space would look complete. ohhhh heyyyy just makes life easier and feeling right at home huh!! hehe
take care,
luisa
A B C in Union Square. Fucking amazing.
Your apt is very nice.....
if i were you i wouldnt hurry in changing the couch so much as the curtains ... i really do think you should get new curtains..there are some really cool and modern curtains nowadays.
nice modern curtains bring a lot to a room´s decoration....
advice from ecuador....
Hey Whit!
I think someone else has already suggested this, but I think that your apartment would look great if you lightened it all up a bit - I really like the look of fresh, clean whites or creams contrasted with a dark wood, which you of course already have on your floors. Those wooden venetian type blinds also look good, esp if you can get the wood to match your floors, and they would be v practical in the summer for shading your rooms but not trapping the light out totally...
I don't know about where you might be able to buy a couch in NYC - I've visited many times, but always been too busy looking at shoes! - but in terms of style, praps one of those which is in the shape of an 'L' - here in the UK we call them corner groups, but I don't know if they call them that in the US?
There are two British companies which I think you might want to look at, though I don't know if they have stores in the US and/or will ship there. Worth checking out for some inspiration maybe? They are Heal's (heals.co.uk) and Habitat (habitat.co.uk) and they have some great things, esp in that kind of style.
Hope that's useful?!
You're a legend, sweetie! xoxo
hey whit, with the summer coming up, there are tons of great flea markets in the city, and you can get great antique-y/ vintage-y couches and reholster them with new (clean) fabrics! Also, they are great spots for fun decorations... It may take some early sun/sat mornings, but it is so worth it.
i love the rug!! I've been using a lot of white lately so maybe a white sofa??? Can you handle it..heheh
Post pics when you're done!
Try ABC Home they have amaaazing things that is so your style. A bit pricey but I dont know what your budget is. As for some tips, dont get a printed couch with that rug. Your couch is stunning! But I guess if its not comfy then whats the point. Good luck! OH! You need more light in the living room. Kinda gloomy.
Hey Whit!
Will you take some pictures when it's redone? That would be very nice, I'm curious!
I can't give u advice because I don't live in NYC, I'm sorry.
Much love from the Netherlands
A white couch and lots of colourful pillows from Missoni!!
http://www.missonihome.it/
IKAE, the best. You just gotta love it and can you please take a picture when it's done? I would love to see it :)
Big kisses from Holland
there are a bunch of flea markets in the nyc area throughout the summer... and also in brooklyn (fort greene) you can find a lot of vintage pieces that are in perfect condition. good luck!
I love your style! I really love IKEA, but something that my best friend and I do that I think adds a little something something is going thrifting and purchasing a lot of odds and ends. I have a lot of petite framed dried, pressed, flowers from Austria that were maybe a dollar each. Also, I just like to collect anything that would add any sort of character to my apartment. Honestly, I love looking at Martha Stewart for a spark of inspiration and then adding or manipulating it to my own style. I hope this helps! :]
I just purchased a new sofa from Restoration Hardwear--see link below--and I LOVE it. If you like it, make sure you select the down fill...it takes it to the next level.
Best of luck,
CCH

You need a LARGE area rug. Try ABC home and carpet! It's a crazy store.
Also, The Future Perfect in Brooklyn is AMAZING in up and coming, and already here Design!
I feel like you're so Paris-chic. You should definetly hit up some of those amazing vintage and thrift shops, find some amazing pieces of furniture, maybe some diy? Yay for reno!
hey Whitney, just check out Vitra, they make beautifull and comfortable furniture. I worked for them in Germany.
Good luck and they have a store in New York
ALL OF WHITNEY APARTMENT DECOR IS FROM ABC HOME!! i work there so i would know
Whitney, I just adore your new apartment. It's so my style. I was watching The City and when you and Roxy are in your room dancing and getting ready for one of your events it shows your full length mirror. Where did you get that mirror? I've been looking for something like that forever and I just fell in love with yours. Hope you respond. Keep being you girl. You're great.
Whit- i DROOL over your couch each and every time i see it... i am really interested in buying it off you if you are getting rid of it anytime in the near future (plz contact me if that is possible)
xx, T
